Bye Dull, Dry Winter Skin!
Our skin is greatly impacted by both temperature and climate, so, in the dead of winter, we often find ourselves with skin that is either dry or dehydrated (Do you know the difference? Read more here!).
If it’s freezing outside and your skin just isn’t looking its best, despite keeping up with your usual regimen, don’t panic! Since the season can affect our skin so drastically, switching up a few key steps in your skincare routine may easily be the quick fix your skin is begging for. I’ve put together some of my best winter skincare advice below to help you keep your usual glow throughout the cold months. Here we go!
Switch Your Cleanser. To give your skin a little boost, try switching from your normal cleanser to a more gentle cleanser to prepare your skin in colder months. My collection of favorite face washes these days can be found here in the Barefaced Shop.
Apply Your Products To Damp Skin. This allows maximum absorption of your skincare, as well as locking in the hydration. Consider adding in a Hydrating Serum twice daily and moisturize in the morning before applying a SPF and makeup, which will help protect the skin barrier. This is especially needed during our current times of battling maskne (acne from wearing masks!) — read more about maskne prevention here!
Listen To Your Skin. If your skin is more reactive than usual, it is likely you need to make some adjustments to your regimen, which is expected as seasons change. For example: if you tolerate Toning Pads twice daily in the summer but are noticing increased dryness, switch to once/day or 3 times a week and consider alternating nights between retinoid use. — retinoid usage tips here! Our team loves this mask for intense hydration - it can be left on all day if your skin really needs a hydration boost!
Everyone Needs To Use This. Our holy skincare grail - Vitamin C serum is a skincare staple in every season! It penetrates deep into your skin, providing effective antioxidant protection from UV damage as it brightens away hyperpigmentation and encourages the growth of collagen and elastin fibers. Vitamin C can save the day when it comes to brightening dull, dry skin.
Be Careful With Water Temperature. Wash your face with tepid water. Limit hot showers and bath times to 5-10 minutes. Make sure to apply lotion/moisturizer immediately after your shower when your skin is still damp to seal in the moisture in the skin. Top moisturizers include the Barefaced Hydrating Lotion, of course, and this is a great hydrating body moisturizer that also improves the appearance of thin, crepey skin.
Exfoliate, Repeat! Gently exfoliate 1-3 times per week to remove dead skin on the face and body. Our Glow Peel Pads are one of our favorite ways to exfoliate, removing dead skin cells to reveal smoother texture and brighter, more evenly toned skin. If you prefer a physical exfoliant, try this one instead!
Hydrate + Eat Healthy. We all know that glowing, healthy skin starts from the inside — what you put into your body is so important! Limit excess alcohol and tobacco as well as highly processed foods. Drink lots of water (especially if you suffer from dehydrated skin) and supplement your diet with a fish oil supplement. If you struggle with chronic skin conditions (i.e eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne) consider an anti-inflammatory diet for at least 8 weeks as a reset.
