Cosmetic Injectables: Neuromodulators 101
What are NEUROMODULATORs?
The three kinds of neuromodulators we have in the US currently are Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. WebMD says it best — neuromodulators block signals from the nerves to the muscles and the injected muscles can't contract, making wrinkles relax and soften.
Botox is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines. Note that wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox. It usually takes 5-7 days for Botox to begin working and two weeks to get the full effect!
WHICH NEUROMODULATOR SHOULD YOU GET?
Research shows the longevity of all of the above neuromodulators are the same (three months). Personally, I have had all three and do not notice a difference between them, so my recommendation to my patients is to try one at a time to keep track of efficacy and see which is the best fit for you.
