Product Usage Tips
+ Which Toning Pads are best for me?
I recommend starting with the regular Toning Pads initially and then increasing to the Toning Pads II as tolerated.
+ Tips when incorporating multiple Barefaced Pads into your regimen:
Toning Pads with Brightening Pads:
- Use the Toning Pads in the AM after cleanser
- Use the Brightening Serum in the PM after cleanser
- If you can only tolerate the Toning Pads a few mornings a week then use the Brightening Serum on any morning you do not use the Toning Pads.
Toning Pads with Glow Peel Pads:
- Use the Toning Pads in the AM and PM after cleanser
- Use Glow Peel Pads 1-3 times a week in the AM in place of Toning Pads
- If you prefer to use the Glow Peel Pads 1-3 times a week at night, use them in place of Toning Pads and skip retinoid that night
Brightening Pads with Glow Peel Pads:
- Use the Brightening Serum in the AM and PM after cleanser
- Use Glow Peel Pads 1-3 times a week in the AM in place of Brightening Serum
- If you prefer to use the Glow Peel Pads 1-3 times a week at night, use them in place of Brightening Serum and skip retinoid that night
+ What if I am starting to use Brightening Wash and Toning Pads together for the first time? How should I start using them initially?
If you are incorporating Brightening Face Wash (BFW) and Toning Pads into your regimen for the first time I recommend starting to use them every other day on alternating days. For example: Monday: Gentle Cleanser then Toning Pads, Tuesday: BFW.
If anything feels too irritating, I recommend stopping the BFW and using a gentle cleanser with the Toning Pads and only re-introduce the BFW when your skin feels normal from the regular use of Toning Pads.
+ I have rosacea and eczema flare-ups on my face, which pads should I use?
Brightening Serum!
+ Can I use retinoids and Toning Pads together?
Retinoids are totally fine to use together with Toning Pads!
Use the Toning Pads in the AM and the retinoid at night initially. You can increase Toning Pads to PM use once you are tolerating them with no dryness/sensitivity every morning.
+ My Brightening Serum arrived without a seal covering the the pads, is that normal? Also, they seem less saturated than the other Barefaced pads, is that normal?
Brightening Serum are individually made to order prior to being shipped to you so there will be no seal covering the top of the container. They are slightly less saturated than the other Barefaced Pads, which is to be expected. It is important to use the Brightening Serum within 90 days for maximum efficacy!
+ How do I layer my skincare products?
+ How should I start using a retinoid?
+ What products on the shop are pregnancy/nursing safe?
All the products (except for the Glow Peel Pads and Retivance) are considered pregnancy/nursing safe by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. However, we always recommend receiving clearance by your OBGYN prior to use.

+ Are the products being sold cruelty free?
YES! All the skincare products in the shop are cruelty free!
+ My skin is having a reaction to the products? Is it normal?
When changing your regimen or incorporating medical grade products there is an expected adjustment stage when using them due to the high level of active ingredients in the product. It is completely normal for them to sting/tingle/induce redness/or the feeling of sensitivity. An allergic reaction would be more of a hives type reaction where the product caused a rash to the areas it was applied. If you have any concerns email hello@barefacedskinshop.com.
+ Which face wash is right for me?
If you have more sensitive/reactive skin or if you are starting an entirely new skincare regimen (that includes retinoids and Toning or Glow Pads)- I recommend starting with Papaya Enzyme Cleanser.
If you have oily skin or are looking for a new cleanser to add to your current routine - I recommend the Brightening Face Wash.
+ The Barefaced Hydrating Lotion stings with application, is that normal?
The hydrating lotion enhances the efficacy of retinoids, glycolic, and salicylic acid and has niacinamide (Vitamin B30 in it so a tingling sensation is to be completely normal, especially if you are starting a brand new regimen or introducing other active ingredients like the Toning Pads, Vitamin C serum, etc. The goal with medical grade products is to induce change in the skin and so we anticipate and desire a “reaction” from the skin with application as long as it is not an allergic reaction.
+ I’m having breakouts since starting my products, is that normal?
When starting a new regimen that includes ingredients such as: retinoids, glycolic, salicylic, vitamin c serum it can cause your skin to “purge” initially. Basically it is making everything that was going to come out eventually come out much quicker. It can take 6 weeks for your skin to adjust. In the majority of people it only takes 2-4 weeks but it can take up to 6.
+ I’m on Accutane or have been off Accutane for less than 6 months, which Barefaced Pads can I use?
I don't recommend using the Toning Pads or Glow Peel Pads until off Accutane for 6 months. The Brightening Serum and a 10% Vit C serum would be a great options for your skin until that point. They are great for hyperpigmentation and calming the skin.
While you can generally start a retinoid post accutane, I would recommend double checking with your derm before doing so.
